Defender commits for two more years

Burnley Football Club are pleased to announce that Murray Campbell has signed a new two-year contract, keeping him with the Clarets until at least the summer of 2027.

The defender has been a regular feature in Andy Farrell’s U21s side this season, alongside gaining valuable senior experience with Chorley and Warrington Rylands.

After putting pen to paper, he said: “I’ve enjoyed my time here so much, so I’m happy to have signed for at least another two years.

“My family are delighted. I’ve been away for two years now and they’re happy that I’m enjoying myself – I can’t ask any more from the Club in terms of support.

“It’s an exciting time with the Academy getting category one status and the first team being promoted to the Premier League.

“I’ve trained with the first team a few times this season and I want to carry that on with a good start to pre-season.

“Hopefully, I can continue my development here or on loan and having spoken to Faz (Andy Farrell – U21s Manager) and Corky (Jack Cork – U21s Assistant Manager), the plan is to keep doing what I’m doing.”

Campbell moved south of the border from St Mirren in September 2023, having been in and around the Scottish Premiership side’s first team at the age of just 15.

The centre-back, who turns 19 in July, quickly moved up to our U21s group having impressed at U18s level.

Campbell totalled 29 appearances at U21s level in the 2024/25 season, as well as six at National League North level for the Magpies.

Towards the end of the season, he had a short stint at Northern Premier League outfit Warrington Rylands, who the U21s faced in pre-season last summer.

The 18-year-old is also a Scottish youth international, having represented his country at U17s and U19s level. His first international goal came in a 2-1 victory over Hungary U19s in October 2024.

Academy Manager Chris Casper added: “Murray is a valued member of our U21s group and as such, we’re pleased to have agreed a new contract for him to stay.

“Despite still being so early in his development, he has impressed with the way he took to senior men’s football alongside his regular minutes at U21s level.

“That can only stand him in good stead going forwards, and I look forward to seeing him push on next season.”
