Young Clarets host Blues in cup action

Burnley's U18's side are back in action Wednesday evening (7pm) as they host Birmingham City in the third round of the FA Youth Cup at the County Ground, Leyland.

Tony Philliskirk's squad were matched with the Blues in the draw made on Friday 17th November, being the 11th of 32 ties picked out of the hat that included all Premier League and Sky Bet Championship clubs.

It's another meeting between the two teams, as the Clarets come off a 1-0 victory against the Blues in the Professional Development League Cup at the Burnley Training Centre.

Martyn Olorenshaw's Midlands team currently place top of the Group North Professional Development League table, having secured eight wins, one loss and two draws since the start of the season.

Last time the two teams faced each other, Vernon Masara found the winner in the 56th minute, as he weaved himself into an open space in the box, and fired straight past Olly Sayer into the top corner.

A close chance came from Winger Lucas Wane, as he utilised the wing when he stormed past Bryon Pendleton, but his powerful strike was blocked by Sayer.

Zach Johnson tried his luck when Joe Ashton squared the ball towards the far post, but Johnson was unable to control the rebound as it fell out of play.

Clarets' keeper Lewis Forshaw made an outstanding save as Brie Bateman took a shot on target in an attempt to find an equaliser, however Forshaw made the reach and tipped the ball over the cross bar.
