Young Clarets fans got a special surprise during the school holidays, when three members of the Burnley FC Women’s team dropped into Down Town to meet supporters and find out more about the work taking place in the heart of Burnley.
Jessica Hennessy, Millie Chandarana, and Naoisha McAloon spent time chatting to families and young fans, signing autographs and posing for photographs before taking on the important job of judging a football shirt design competition.
The visit gave supporters the chance to meet some of their favourite players away from the pitch, while also showcasing the strong links between Burnley FC Women and the wider Burnley community.
The players were given a tour of Down Town, learning more about Burnley Together and the range of organisations and activities based at the venue, including the Community Café and Kitchen, Community Grocery and Re Love the Pre Loved shop.
They also heard about how Burnley Together brings local organisations together to support people across the borough, from providing access to affordable food and clothing to creating opportunities for people to learn, connect and spend time together.
For the players, the visit was also an opportunity to thank the fans who helped cheer the team on during their successful promotion campaign last season.
Millie Chandarana said: “It was great to meet with some of our fans ahead of the new season.
“They played such a big role in our promotion last season, and we can’t wait to be playing back in front of them this season with all our home league games at Turf Moor.
“It was also nice to see what fantastic work is taking place through Burnley Together, which is really important to the local community.”
Additionally, the visit highlighted the role that sport can play in bringing people together and the importance of strong community connections across Burnley.
Down Town is home to a range of activities, services and community organisations, providing a welcoming space where local people can pop in for a meal, take part in activities, access support or simply spend time together.
