CLARETS midfielder Josh Brownhill is calling on his team to maintain the momentum built before the international break.
Brownhill has been part of a side enjoying a considerable upturn in fortunes, with the excellent 3-1 win over Brentford being followed by a vital point at high-flying Chelsea.
Burnley host Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon looking to move out of the Premier League bottom three.
And Brownhill says the positive result in West London before the break has given an added edge of confidence to the team.
The 25-year-old said: “[The 1-1 draw at Chelsea] was huge – just to know you can play against one of the big teams in the division and actually get something.
“Even more so that it was away from home, as their record at home is normally very, very good.
“We have had belief all season, so we knew we could nick something. We even had a few chances late on to maybe take the game.
“We always want to stay in the game, and make it hard for teams to break us down, we do create a lot of chances as well, it is just about taking them.
“Our history at those places, winning at Old Trafford, winning at Liverpool, Arsenal… it isn’t something new to us. That gives us huge belief.”
The aim for Sean Dyche’s men is to now to keep up the good form shown prior to the fortnight off and climb the Premier League table.
On Saturday the Clarets face another tough challenge when Patrick Vieira’s Palace team visit Lancashire at 3pm.
The visitors are also in excellent form – clinching back-to-back victories over Manchester City and Wolves before the international break – but Brownhill insists the team are prepared for the test they will present.
He added: “Every game is important for us, but we know what Palace are like and the challenges they pose.
“They have started off really well this year and have some really good players. But over the years we have had some really good results against them.
“Hopefully this weekend is going to be the same and we can bring a few points out of it.”
With the end to 2021 in sight, the New Year will also bring up an anniversary for the former Bristol City star.
January marks two years since the energetic midfielder signed for the club from the Robins – but because of the Covid-19 pandemic, he is still yet to play a full season in front of crowds at Turf Moor.
Reflecting on the upcoming landmark, Brownhill admits he can’t believe his time in
Claret and Blue has gone so quickly, adding: “That’s crazy.
“The thought of having been here for that long – it really does feel like yesterday that I signed.
“It has gone fast, but I am proud to be a Burnley player for two years and get the games I’ve had under my belt.
“It has been very difficult as well. We have a really deep squad, so it is always going to be difficult to keep your shirt.
“But overall I am delighted and very proud.”
