Midfielder thrilled to secure win in his first derby

Josh Brownhill was delighted Sunday's derby day win secured the Clarets place at the top of the table heading into the World Cup break.

The midfielder spoke after the game about the electric atmosphere at Turf Moor, his confidence that the goals would come and left a special message for fans for over the break.

Brownhill on his first derby:

“It’s hard to put it into words, from minute one, until the last minute I think everyone was outstanding. Including the fans, you could feel it building up to the game, how good it was, during the game. I think for me that’s definitely up there with one of the best atmospheres I’ve been involved in.

“Like I said three nil, perfect performance.”

Brownhill on knowing the goals would come:

“The quality that we’ve got in the team, not just from our front three, from everybody else as well we’re always going to create chances. This season, sometimes it’s not gone in, sometimes three, four have gone in. I think we’re the top goal scorers in the league, or right at the top and it just proves how much quality we’ve got and how many chances that we can create. Today again I thought we created so many chances, it could have been even more than three.

“I’m delighted that it was three goals, clean sheet and Barnsey scored, I thought it was absolutely brilliant.”

Brownhill on the derby day atmosphere:

“It was massive, I feel like there was a lot riding on the game, not only as a derby, it was sort of the top of the table clash. Whoever won could go top of the table, there was a lot riding on it, but you could feel, I think the lads were oozing with confidence. We knew if we played our game, they couldn’t live with us and I though we executed the plan perfectly.

“I feel like going into this break now, top of the league, full of confidence, you know it’s going to be a very happy break.”

Brownhill on his message for the fans over the break:

“Just enjoy, enjoy, enjoy. We’ve put in a lot of hard work, us and the fans, travelling far and in numbers. Sticking with us and believing in us from day one where, you know, they sort of didn’t see the way that we we’re going to play and is it going to work. For now, it’s worked we’re top of the table, so for them they can enjoy the break as much as we can and I’m sure they’ll be excited to get back to see more results like this.”
