Josh Brownhill wore the Captain's armband in Saturday's win against Reading, which saw the Clarets come from behind to take the three points.
The midfielder, who has started all 18 of Burnley's league fixtures so far this season, has been reflecting on the weekend's performance, his adaptability and the importance of substitutions with such a challenging fixture schedule.
Brownhill on the Reading performance:
“Going through the game and leaving it that late, you miss a few chances, and you think is it going to be our day. Credit to the lads again for coming back, it was fully deserved I think overall in the performance but sometimes it doesn’t always work out. Thankfully magic from Benny and Anass getting in at the back stick it’s gone in.
“It happens, you play so many games in short succession and some people get a bit tired, fatigue and mentally as well but you’ve got to dig in. Sometimes first halves go like that and you know, the opposition are fresh, we try and grind them down and like I say even if it takes us the 93rd minute, we know we’re going to get a few chances and with the quality we’ve got coming off the bench and in the whole squad we knew we were going to create more clear cut chances and thankfully we did in the end.”
Brownhill on Reading’s goal:
“It was a frustrating goal [to concede], we’re normally better than that in those scenarios with balls going up from long balls and the runners, we’re normally good at covering the ball. They go down and they score which is very frustrating, sort of out of nothing really but teams play for that and for us it was about us not getting too down, we got loads of time left, just focus on getting the next goal and when you get the next goal you push on to hopefully get the other. Credit to the boys.”

Brownhill on the importance of substitutions:
“It’s a positive for our squad that we’ve got a really big squad. It’s hard to keep everybody happy but we know that everybody’s going to play their part. The team that started the first game of the season is different to now and the subs that come on, he [the manager] is using everybody. So, for the subs that do come on that’s why you’ve got to be ready because you can impact the game. Benny has done that on numerous occasions.”
Brownhill on his role at Reading:
“I’ve played in many positions in my career, being a professional footballer. I can adapt my position, whether it’s higher up, whether its deeper, on the right, on the left, I can do any position and I feel like that’s something that I’ve got in my game. It’s unfortunate that we missed Josh Cullen and Jack Cork because their big, big players and have played the majority of games but the lads that have come in have done fantastic.”
Brownhill on the belief in the squad:
“The main thing of how to get a successful squad is that you’ve got to believe in everything you do, with the club, the players and the way that we play you have to believe in it. If you don’t it can let you down. I feel like we’ve got a squad here that believes in everything that we do.
“Credit to the fans again, they are always behind us and stuck with us right until the end. As much as it might not have gone our way for the majority of the game, and it may have looked like we were going to get beat, they stuck with us, and they know that we are going to carve chances and put them away.”
