Josh Brownhill was proud of his teammates following Saturday's FA Cup win against AFC Bournemouth, and in addition to the chance to secure a place in the next round, the tie allowed the Clarets, who sit top of the Championship, the opportunity to face higher tier opposition in the form of the Premier League Cherries.
Speaking post-match, the midfielder said: “It was a bit of a wet and windy one, it was sort of mixed weather going throughout, which, you know normally happens in Burnley at Turf Moor, probably not so far this way, but at least it wasn’t too cold!
“The main thing is going through to the next round, it was a good test against a Premier League team, who are where we want to be. I thought we handled it very well and for me to get two assists, to keep sort of chipping away at affecting the game going forward, obviously it’s been a big thing of me this year - to try and affect the game going forward and I’ve done that again today, with two assists, which I’ll be happy with."
On how well he thought the visitors fared, he added: “Absolutely, I thought we took on the test very well. Don’t get me wrong they’ve got some very good players, that’s why they’re in the Premier League and for us we’re sort of a new team, wanting to get back to the Premier League.
"For us we went to Manchester United and played very well, and we could have scored a few goals there which is good to look back on and it was another test today, against a Premier League side, where we want to be. I felt like we handled it very well, the boys put out a great shift and were very brave to get on the ball everywhere, and I’m proud of the boys."
The Clarets have won the FA Cup once in their history, and Brownhill is excited about continuing the journey in the prestigious competition.
“It’s the FA Cup, it’s gone back many, many years, that everybody’s involved in, from my brothers, even lower than that and to higher up, so I feel like the buzz around the FA Cup is good.
“For us, we’ve got the squad to try and go as far as possible, we want to go as far as possible and if we can get to the latter stages then hopefully that happens but if not we’ll do our best and put out good performances and show them like we’ve done today."
Finally, the game saw manager Vincent Kompany make five changes from the side that faced Swansea City last weekend, which the midfielder added shows a real strength in squad and character.
“It is [a show of depth in the squad]. Sometimes when people come in and they’ve not played for a while, it can sort of take a little bit to get going but because we’re so well drilled on the training pitch, and we pride ourselves in that, whoever comes in can handle their role and make an affect on the game. Today was no different, a few new people have come in for the game time and done very, very well and I’m sure it will give the manager another headache but for us, you know, keep this form going because I thought we were very good today.”
