Josh Brownhill was delighted to come away from Watford with three points on Good Friday in a game that he says has given the squad 'huge confidence' going into Monday's clash with Sheffield United.

The Clarets captain who is no stranger to scoring important goals at Vicarage Road, netted the winning goal in the second half and speaking after the game said he was 'over the moon' with his goal and the victory.

"It was a game of mixed emotions for sure. Obviously, you go one down in a huge game, it was very frustrating, but we knew we had the quality, and we were going to create chances. We didn’t want to push too early and open ourselves up even more. But to come back the way that we did and the way the game finishes, we’re all delighted.”

The Clarets went behind within the opening ten minutes, however Brownhill was pleased with the reaction shown to go into the break level.

“I thought we were alright first half, I thought we created enough chances, we knew where the spaces were. I think it was just a little bit of quality in and around their box probably let us down a little bit. But saying that Jaidon puts an unreal ball into Zian, Zian puts it away. Marcus put a cross in for me that I flicked on, and Zian was nearly there, so we still had a few bits of quality.

“We go into half time level, that happens in football. It’s more about how we came out and we came out fighting in the end.”

The midfielder headed home in the 58th minute in front of the travelling fans, a moment he described as an incredible feeling.

“I had a feeling before that I was going to score. It’s been a few games coming, I’m delighted it went in. I saw where the ball was going to go and I kind of guessed where it was going to go, and it landed to me!

“The feeling of scoring here a few years ago was incredible, I think that might’ve just topped it a little bit more. But to come away with three points this late on in the season, the way the game was, I'm just over the moon.”

The home side applied pressure throughout the game with James Trafford called into action to make some crucial saves. How proud was the captain of his teammates for the quality shown in those key moments?

“It’s a sign of a very, very good team. We’ve got some unbelievable individuals. Traff speaks for himself, the saves that he makes time and time again when called upon, incredible. CJ, I can go round everybody. At times there was some incredible work by everybody. They go down to nine men and people think it’s going to be easy, but they don’t realise we’ve just come back from one nil down, 2-1, four games left to go. You don’t want to open yourselves up too much, I think if that was early on in the season you would probably see a different second half. But there was too much riding on the game to leave ourselves vulnerable. They still had some chances but a big block from CJ, a few other things. The most important thing is we came away from this game with three points, especially after going one nil down, it’s a huge, huge win.”

The Clarets conclude the Easter weekend at home to Sheffield United on Easter Monday in a top of the table clash and Brownhill's bringing confidence from the win into the encounter.

“Huge confidence. We come out of this game I think eight points clear of Sheffield United, three points clear of Leeds, and they’ve got to play tonight so they’re going to see that and the pressure that we’ve put on them.

“It makes Monday even bigger if it could be bigger. But we’re very well prepared for that game. Get this game out of the way, three points boxed off, now the focus moves on to Monday.”
