All eyes on Friday night for Brownhill

Midfielder Josh Brownhill looks ahead to Friday night’s trip to Huddersfield Town for the opening game of the new season.

The 26-year-old faced the media on Wednesday afternoon, covering all topics from pre-season, Vincent Kompany, new faces settling in and what to expect from the Terriers.

Brownhill on pre-season:

“It’s been a really good pre-season, obviously with a lot of change in everything, but it’s been good. The lads have trained really well, and we’ve had some really good, tough, competitive games. Overall, we’re really pleased.

“Pre-seasons are never easy, but I can’t wait to get started. Obviously when you go through a pre-season and the games come, you put it behind you.

“I’m just excited to run out onto that pitch, and then the games will come thick and fast pretty much straight away.”

Brownhill on the new faces at the Club:

“It’s been good having some new faces in the door with new characters and new personalities. They’ve all been really good, but I’ve gone from being one of the youngest in the team to being one of the oldest!

“They’re all going to learn off the more experienced ones, and there’s people here who are more experienced than me, but I’m here to help if they have any questions.”

Brownhill on Vincent Kompany:

“He demands high standards on the ball. He’s very intelligent in the way that he envisions football with patterns of play, being on the ball and pressing, and he goes into a lot of detail. The boys are thriving off that.

“It’s going to be a new style, it’s the style he had at Anderlecht and did well with, and he’s trying to implement that on us. Throughout pre-season, there’s been some really good bits through keeping the ball and being patient but also hurting teams.

“The main thing for us is that we want to attack and we want to go and win every single game, that’s going to be a massive factor for us.”

Brownhill on the Championship:

“It's relentless, just with games coming thick and fast. It’s pretty much Saturday – Tuesday for the majority of the season, so it’s going to be very difficult.

“The teams are very hard to beat so it’s never going to be easy. To come out of this division, you’ve got to have a really, really good season.”

Brownhill on Huddersfield:

“They’re a team who have been there [in the Championship] for a few years now and been up there, so it’s a great game to start off on for us to see where we’re at.

"It’s the first game of the season and it’s on TV so I’m sure everybody will be watching it as well.

“For us, it’s never decided on the first day of the season, but we don’t want to disappoint ourselves as players and the fans as well. We’ll go there, we’ve had a really good pre-season, and we’re definitely ready for that game.”
