Clarets midfielder Josh Brownhill was buzzing to score his first ever goal at Turf Moor as Burnley picked up a point from a 1-1 draw against Luton Town on Saturday.
Brownhill, who joined Burnley in 2020, struck in the 51st minute to make it four points from the opening two Sky Bet championship games.
And the 26-year-old reflected on a good afternoon’s work with things to build on post-match.
Brownhill on the game against the Hatters:
“I felt like the first 5/10 minutes let us down and we just probably didn’t fight for second balls as much, but after that for the majority of the game I felt we were in control.
“We got in good areas and camped them in but, ultimately, we didn’t score enough of our chances or get enough on target, which is quite disappointing for us. Overall though, I think it’s still a good performance and the point is a good one in the end.”
Brownhill on his goal:
“[Manuel] Benson crossed the ball and when Barnesy took a bad touch, I thought he was going to block me off from shooting! I just hit it and couldn’t really see, but when I looked up it was in the back of the net.
“It was a really good feeling to score, I haven’t scored too many over the last couple of years and I know I’m capable of doing, so hopefully there’s more to come.
“I didn’t score for a while in my first year which was disappointing, and then scored two last year, which I was happy with but could’ve got more. This year, to get off the mark early doors is only a good thing and I’m just hoping there’s more to come."
Brownhill on Manuel Benson:
“He’s a really good player. He’s not really trained loads with only coming in over the last few days, but you can see the quality that he’s got [already]. Over the next few weeks with a few more training sessions, he’ll be even better.
“He’s fitted in really well and when I got the ball, I just gave it to him to let him run and work his magic. Hopefully I can be on the end of it whether he crosses it or passes it, but you can see a lot of glimpses from all the new players really.
“They’ve all settled in really well and the fans saw that today. It was unlucky that we couldn’t get the three points, but this was still a good point.”
Brownhill on building steadily with new additions:
“It’s not going to be easy. We had a really good result and performance at Huddersfield, and then today was a good performance overall. It’s going to take a while for everyone to gel in, the new lads are coming in learning and even for us who’ve been here a while, it’s a new manager with a new system.
“We’ve put a lot of shifts in at the training ground, and a lot of it is paying off, but it’s going to take a lot of time. To play against Huddersfield who were in the Play-off final last year, Luton who were in the Play-Offs last year and then Watford again on Friday, they’re three really tough games.
“We’ll try and come out of that with a result, a win on Friday, and then look to get more points on the board after that."
Brownhill on the crowd’s atmosphere at Turf Moor:
“It was really good [today], it really helped us. Last Friday at Huddersfield they travelled in their numbers and backed us, and it was the same again today.
“I think the atmosphere’s been outstanding, even at the back end of last year the fans got right behind us, and we’re just hoping the fans stick with us again this year.”
Brownhill on Watford up next:
“They’re a really good team as it showed when we played them last year, even though we got the better of them.
“Hopefully this year we can do the same again. We know it’s not going to be easy but if we play the way that we can do, then I’m sure we’ll give them a good game.”
