Manuel Benson's excitement at being a Burnley player was only enhanced by his debut in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Luton Town.
The Belgian midfielder, who had joined the Club less than 48 hours prior, came on as a half time substitute at Turf Moor and enjoyed a 45-minute cameo as the Clarets came from behind to earn a point through Josh Brownhill’s 51st-minute strike.
Benson spoke to the Club’s media after the game, discussing his bow in a Burnley shirt, how the Clarets fans have taken to him and looking forward to the season ahead.
Benson on the point taken against the Hatters:
“You can say that [I had a good debut] but I also think that I had some chances to score, and I’m a little bit sad about that but overall, we still have a point so I can be happy.
“We went 1-0 down early on and knew it was going to be tough. When you see the response of the team for the rest of the first half, it was great.
“We felt there was something more in the game [than the draw] and we just needed to get over them. At the end, we didn’t get it, but we need to take the positives from the game and continue.”
Benson on the atmosphere at Turf Moor:
“I still have goosebumps talking about it. When I came out, it was unbelievable. I hadn’t even played a minute [for the Club] and they [the fans] were already applauding me.
“It just gives me more confidence and I just wanted to give something back to them which is why I’m a little bit gutted about the misses. I hope this atmosphere can stay the same all season and that I can do great things.”

Benson on his first few days as a Claret:
“I’m still finding my way. I still need to get to know all the guys very well, and they need to get to know me so we can have a better understanding.
“I’m really positive it’s going to come, and that everything’s going to come, because everyone around here has been very welcoming to me. They’ve explained everything really well and I know everything is going to be absolutely fine.”
Benson on the rest of the campaign:
“I’m very excited. The atmospheres and the level of player [in the Sky Bet Championship] are great. I can’t wait to play more games, more minutes and get even more experience. It’s an exciting time.
“I hope to keep improving all season. I just need to do my job and I think they [the fans] will enjoy the whole team if we keep performing at the same level as we have done in the last two games.”
