Midfielder happy with Sunday's second half performance

Josh Brownhill was delighted his goal, his seventh of the season, helped the Clarets secure a hard-earned three points at Carrow Road on Sunday afternoon.

Reflecting on a performance which he described as not 'good enough' in the first half, he was happy that a lively second earned an important win on the road.

“I'm delighted now. It was a game of mixed feelings to be fair. First half it was not good enough in a lot of spells, we’re miles better than that. And the second half we go inside, we regroup, we know we've got so much more in us. I thought second half to come out here away at Norwich, they’re a good team you saw that first half. To come out and give the performance that we have, I'm so happy, not just for the boys but for the staff and the fans as well. It doesn’t go unnoticed the support coming all the way here, so to send them home happy is very good.”

The visitors didn't get off to the best start, conceding just 63 seconds in. Looking back, how would Brownhill rate the team's reaction to going behind so early on?

“It was just that first bit, we didn’t go long from the goal kick which is what we should have done but in hindsight it’s alright to say that. However, we make those decisions in games and the decision was not the right one. To concede like that and already be 1-0 down when you start the game is not good. Again, away here, it’s not great.

“The reaction was alright. First half probably not the best reaction we could have gone for, but they played well, they’re good a team at keeping the ball. To come in at just one nil at half-time we’re probably thankful for because we knew coming out second half everybody was raring to go. We knew what we should have done, took a look at a few things and second half you could see exactly what we’d worked on."

What was Head Coach Scott Parker's message to the squad in the dressing room?

“It was just getting us back lively again, working on the basics, duals, focus on our touch a little bit more, make the right decisions with the ball and ultimately bring that energy that we've had for the majority of the season.

“He went in a little bit at us at half-time just to raise everybody’s spirits. The lads in there knew, it wasn’t like we didn’t know that. But everybody got round each other, knew what we had to do second half.

“To come out and score two goals, away here. It’s a great feeling.”

The captain's goal was his seventh of the season and he's keen to improve his numbers.

“I think I was happier with Flem’s goal to be honest! For me though, I’m delighted to score, but more importantly for the three points here.

“It’s seven for me this season, it’s what I got a couple of seasons ago. It’s something I always want to improve on. Hopefully I can keep doing that because to score late on and get three points is huge.”

And staying on the topic of goals, what did he make of Zian's fine finish?

“Yeah, his finishing is outstanding! I'm going to take the assist for it because I told them to shoot. It was an unbelievable shot, so much power. I had so much confidence in him. I’m buzzing for him because he works so hard each day in training. So, to see that sort of finish, what he does in training on a matchday is huge.”

Finally at 2-1 and with six minutes additional time the Clarets had to dig deep and defend to secure the victory. How pleased was he with the squad's work rate?

“I think that’s the sign of a really good team. We’ve shown a lot this season, if someone gives the ball away, you’ll see absolutely everybody running back and putting bodies on the line.

“I think there was more of that second half, compared to the first half in regard to duals, blocks on the line and doing everything we could. To concede from a set piece is very frustrating, we’ve been really good at them this season.

“But yes, the second half to put our bodies on the line and dig deep. It’s always the last five, six minutes, you don’t want to be under pressure but sometimes that’s the way the game goes. They send so many bodies forward, you’ve got to send people back to defend and pick players up. To come away with two goals and no goals conceded in the second half I think is outstanding.”
