Burnley Football Club can confirm George Brierley has signed his first professional contract, running until the summer of 2028.

The 18-year-old has featured regularly for the U21s this season, in addition to making the first team squad for the Premier League trip to Brighton & Hove Albion.

After putting pen to paper, he said: “It’s a really big achievement for me after lots of hard work this season, and hopefully I can push on even more now.

“My scholarship has been really good. We won the U18s league in my first year, and this year I’ve been able to play up with the U21s a lot.

“The games are a lot harder physically and mentally, which has helped me develop more as a player.

“When I’ve been around the first team players I’ve tried to learn and take on advice too, which makes me even more determined to be there more often.”

Cheshire-born Brierley joined the Clarets at U14 level having previously been with Liverpool.

The central midfielder, who is comfortable in defensive and attacking roles, started his scholarship with Tony Philliskirk’s U18s in the 2024/25 season.

After a string of impressive displays, he has earned 17 U21s appearances to date this campaign and has captained his older peers in recent weeks.

Academy Manager Chris Casper added: “George has been a consistent performer this season, and we’re really pleased that he has committed his future to the Club.

“His technical abilities, combined with the right work ethic and mentality, give him a strong all-round game and I look forward to seeing him progress in the years to come.”
