Jordan Beyer praised Burnley's patience and character following Saturday's win against Michael Carrick's Middlesbrough.
The game entered the break goalless however a more eventful second half saw the Clarets come from behind to win 3-1, with a late penalty save by Arijanet Muric.
Talking of his delight with the win and his family being in attendance to see it, Beyer believes if the team continue in this vein and improve week on week, that there's a bright future ahead.
“It was a big game for us, a big win for us and we’re happy at the end to win that game and get away with the three points to remain the gap at the top, maybe six points but at least three points. We’re happy to keep that gap.
“It was a tough game for us, they stood pretty deep in the first half, made it hard for us but we stayed patient. We got one goal, so we went down 1-0, it was a bit unfortunate but that happens sometimes, but I thought we showed a strong character, came back 3-1, totally deserved it.
“It got a bit heated in the last five minutes with the penalty, but we’ve got Aro at the back who just was brilliant at the moment right where we needed him. He stepped up and saved the penalty and then we knew it was done, the game. A 3-1 win, the Turf was rocking again! It was great to be back with the fans after the break, they cheered us on, they made us win the game and all together we’re just happy with our three points at the end.”
On whether the top of the table position carries an added pressure entering games, he added: “We’re just taking every game as it comes. Basically, we know we’re top at the moment, but we keep on working hard so we’re not looking too much at the table. We just try to be ourselves every game, just keep doing what we’re doing, get better at it. I think we’re still not at the end of the road, so we still have a few things to improve on, but I think we’re getting there. Then the results come from itself and if we just keep on doing what we’re doing, working hard everyday in training, doing what the manager and the staff demands from us, I think we have a bright future with the team.”
It was the centre back who assisted Manuel Benson's equaliser, although it wasn't something he had thought about come full-time.
“Oh yeah, I didn’t even recognise it because it was just dribbling, and I didn’t even think of that!”
Since arriving in September, Beyer has spoken positively about settling into the squad and he was pleased his family could take in the home turf win.
“Yes, I was very happy they’ve been here [my family to watch the game] and one of my best friends is also here. My family, my sister’s first time here at the Turf so I was very happy that we could show them a win today! My parents also, I’m very happy they could be here today and I’m just happy we got the win for them.”
As ever the festive period brings with it another busy run of games, with Burnley making the trip to Old Trafford on Wednesday in the Fourth Round of the Carabao Cup and it's a fixture the defender is looking forward to.
“I don’t think we have to be afraid of the game, it’s just the games you play in your career for. I think everybody’s looking forward to it and we’re just happy that we have, I know it’s going to be a tough game of course, but we’re happy to get a draw like this because as I said it’s the games you play for. It’s the big games you want to play. Playing against Man United at Old Trafford, that’s something you really dream of, and so we have no pressure at all. We’re the underdogs there, so I really think we’re a team where at the moment with what we can do, we’re a really tough opponent for them and everything is possible.”
