Jordan Beyer was happy with the Clarets win and his first professional goal, following Saturday afternoon's win over Coventry City.
Describing the game as tough, he spoke of the improvements he feels the team can make ahead of next weekend's encounter with West Bromwich Albion, but took pride in the squad's ability to grind out the win.
“It was a tough game for us today. The first half, definitely not at our best, not the things we’ve showed the last games - the whole season, but it happens sometimes unfortunately. Today was just the first of one of the days where it just didn’t work out and we have to look in with the manager and stuff what were the reasons for it.
“The second half I think we reacted pretty good, tried to do our best. We were lucky from my pass to Aro that we didn’t concede there, it was pretty sloppy but unfortunately it happens sometimes, and we were just lucky to and happy to get the three points in the end, against a tough opponent. It wasn’t our best game as I said, but we already made a tick on it, and we go again next week and try to do the things better we didn’t do so good today.”
In addition, the defender spoke about the importance of finding ways to win games, despite not playing at your best.
“I think when you want to win the league or be successful as a team, I think it shows in these games where you aren’t at your best still to somehow win it or get a good result out of it. We luckily did so today and it’s a really important three points, we’re now sixteen points ahead of the third place and yes, we try to do better again next week to bounce back after the performance today. I think there’s no doubt that we will come back stronger, watch everything back and analyse what we can do better.”
Beyer's header on the 82nd minute was not only his first goal in Claret, but his first ever at a professional level.
“I have to be honest I’m pretty happy because I’ve never, ever scored before so to do it here at Turf Moor and to get the winner, it feels even better. However, I’m happier about winning with the team and getting the three points was all that mattered today. Of course, it’s nice to score but for me the win is way more important. I’m just happy for the boys, for the effort we put in in the second half, we redeemed ourselves with a win in the end.”
Beyer was joined in defence by Charlie Taylor and was full of praise for his teammate.
“It was really unfortunate Taylor’s [Harwood-Bellis] injury last week. He’s out now for quite a time, it’s definitely a loss for us but Charlie Taylor is also a brilliant player. He has shown it over the past years, he’s shown it this season always when he comes on and is needed, he’s directly there. I thought he was really brilliant today and always had my back, when I messed up. It shows just how much potential is in this team that no matter where we get, one player’s injured or can’t play, that the next player comes in and directly does his job without a problem, and that just shows how good the team is.
“It feels like we have 30 players, who can play, no matter who is on the pitch we can always do what we try to do. Obviously it didn’t work out today like we wanted it to but we try to go again next week and do better.”
Next up for the home side is a visit from The Baggies, with the defender looking forward to the test.
“They are a really good team. I think they have been a bit unfortunate the first half of the season, didn’t get quite the results. They are a good team for sure but we’re looking forward to being with the fans again next week. We’ll try to do our best and hope it’s going to be a good game, and a win for us again.”
