Striker speaks ahead of the final game of the season

Clarets forward Ashley Barnes reflects on his goal in last night’s draw at Aston Villa and discusses Sunday’s final game of the season against Newcastle United at Turf Moor

Barnes on his goal at Villa Park:

“It was just another day. That’s my job, I’m there to do that and it’s been a long time coming. I picked up the ball and put it on the spot then from there the main thing is just to stay calm, do what I do in training and put them in.

“Luckily it went into the back of the net.”

Barnes on the mood in camp after last night’s draw:

“It’s positive. We’ve left it in our own hands by getting that point last night and getting out of the relegation zone.

“We’ve got one final push at the weekend now, it’s all riding on Sunday.

“We’ll go back over the videos on Newcastle today and get ready for that.”

Barnes on Turf Moor:

“It’ll be packed [on Sunday], it’ll be buzzing, and we’ve got an opportunity to give back to the fans.

“Hopefully we can send them off happy and stay in the Premier League. We’ve got a good dressing room, we know how to get through this.”

Barnes on his season:

“It’s been tough for me personally, but I always stay focused, be with the lads, and wait for a chance. I’ve had that in the last few games.

“I believe in my own ability and that’s all I can do. It’s not just about me though, it’s about the whole collective. We have one final push and it’s huge for the club.

“The lads have done well to turn it around [so far], and now we hopefully can get the win this weekend, get out of there, and be safe.”
