Striker describes amazing title winning feeling

Ashley Barnes was in full celebration mode following the Clarets title win at Ewood Park on Tuesday evening.

Speaking after the game the striker described his delight at securing the 1-0 win.

“It's an amazing feeling, you know to send the fans home double happy tonight, obviously being crowned Champions and getting the win here was extra special.”

“Look we should have had this wrapped up before if I’m honest, but it is what it is, this is football, sometimes you don’t win. However, to do it here on a special occasion like tonight and it meant so much to the fans. It’s given them the bragging rights even more so.”

It was a tight game, with both sides battling to come out on top - and Barnes was pleased with the atmosphere and the feistiness over the course of the 90 minutes.

“Yeah, it was a good derby. I thought we controlled quite a lot of it, didn’t really have too many chances for them. If anything, it was probably their set plays that caused us a little bit of trouble. It’s one of those games, it’s going to be a little bit cagey, it’s going to be a bit feisty, they’re the games you want to play in and lucky enough, thanks to Benny [Manuel Benson] we came out on top.”

Manuel Benson put the Clarets ahead on the 66th with another stunner - and Barnes was full of praise for his teammate.

“Yeah, I said to the lads the other day I feel absolutely devastated because the last two games he’s done it and it’s meant nothing. So tonight, to score another screamer and what it’s meant for the Club and the fans, it’s fantastic.”

It's been a special season and with two games to go the Clarets number 10 has a message for the incredible support he has received from the supporters.

“It’s been tremendous, I can’t thank the fans enough. To give them something back, like I said before, obviously getting relegated last season, to bounce back and do it the way that we have, with so many games - well two games now - but to be crowned Champions and be promoted within so many games is a fantastic achievement.”
