A Championship title win at Ewood Park ensured defender Ameen Al-Dakhil was all smiles on Tuesday evening, as the Clarets celebrated a 1-0 win over Blackburn Rovers.
“It feels amazing. It’s so nice to do it here as well, in front of the fans it was amazing. It was not an easy game; it was a difficult game but yeah we fought until the end and we did it - so really happy.”
Since securing promotion to the top-flight, the Clarets had been edging ever closer to the title, with Al-Dakhil asked if there was ever any worry as the games went on that it wouldn't happen.
“No, we just wanted to focus on this game, focus on every single game that comes to us. We’re really happy and we worked so hard for it, so everyone deserves it, the fans, the players, the staff. I’m really happy with this result here.”
In a tightly fought game the only goal on the night came in the form of a Manuel Benson stunner in the second half.
“Yes, Benson with his left foot is crazy, it’s unbelievable what he can do but everyone did it, everyone fought until the end, we had the possession, we fought in the duals. We gave everything and we got a result so, really happy to do this in front of the fans, it feels really good.”
The title win allowed the champions to celebrate with the 2,244 Clarets in the away end and Al-Dakhil can't praise the support enough.
“They are always special, not only today. They helped us, they pushed us every single day. I’m really glad that we have fans like this and I hope that next year they will be the same.”
It's been quite a few months for the defender, who joined the ranks in January. When asked what the prospect of Premier League football next season means to him he added: “It means everything. It was always my dream to play in the Premier League, so now it’s going to happen and being Champions - it’s my first time being Champions so it’s an amazing feeling and I won’t forget it.”
