Burnley Football Club can confirm that Hamzat Balogun has signed a new one-year contract, keeping him with the Clarets until the summer of 2026 with a Club option for a further year.
The U21s defender joined in September 2024 and has been a regular at right-back for Andy Farrell’s side in recent months.
After putting pen to paper on his new deal, he said: “This new contract gives me peace of mind going into the summer and I’m very happy.
“When I came in, I had to fight for my spot, and when the minutes came I had to prove myself which I think I’ve done.
“My coaches Faz (Andy Farrell) and Corky (Jack Cork) believe in me a lot and we have a good relationship.
“It’s a good group of players too and everybody’s aiming to finish the season well in the league and the Premier League Cup.”
Having impressed on trial following his release from Watford, Balogun signed an initial deal that expires at the end of the current season.
The 20-year-old, who is eligible to represent Nigeria on the international stage, was with Manchester United up to U16s level.
Balogun has represented the U21s 35 times in all competitions this season, playing a key role in the team’s successes.
The right-back was part of the back line that kept a clean sheet against Chelsea in the quarter finals of the Premier League Cup.
Academy Manager Chris Casper added: “Hamzat has earned this new deal with his hard work and professionalism both on and off the pitch.
“His performances this season have been pleasing and he has become a valued member of our U21s group.
“I look forward to seeing how much he can improve next season.”
