Burnley Football Club are excited to announce Jackie Bachteler as the new Manager of our Women’s team, as they prepare for life in Barclays Women’s Super League 2.

Ross Wallace will remain at the Club as Assistant Manager following his success last season, working alongside First Team Coach Ashley Vickers and Goalkeeping Coach Jordan Booth.

On her appointment, Bachteler said: “I’m really happy to be here.

“I want to be part of the community here. Being at the final game of last season (against Stoke City) and seeing more than 1,000 people there was great.

“I look forward to growing that fanbase together, with the supporters showing their excitement towards this project.

“They’re going to see an organised team that’s very physical, very positive, and forward thinking in trying to create opportunities for players within the women’s game.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun to watch.”

Born and raised in Massachusetts, Bachteler enjoyed a four-year professional playing career as a midfielder.

The 37-year-old boasts an international coaching career that has taken in roles across the United States, Finland, Spain, Cyprus, Costa Rica and Sweden.

In 2012 she moved to Sweden to play and coach in the highest league, known as the Damallsvenskan, for various clubs.

Her last role there was as the Sporting Director for BP Fotboll in Stockholm, overseeing the player and coach development for BP’s girls side and the Girls Academy.

Ahead of the 2023 NWSL season, which is the top league in America, Bachteler joined San Diego Waves as an Assistant Coach.

The Waves went on to win the 2023 NWSL Shield with a final day victory over Racing Louisville FC and started 2024 by winning the NWSL Challenge Cup.

Bachteler will also continue her role as a scout for US Women’s National Team.

Director of Football Development Paul Jenkins added: “I’m delighted to be able to welcome Jackie into our Women’s coaching set-up.

“It’s an exciting time for the team, with new players through the door, an expanded staff team as part of our continued investment into the programme, and pre-season now well underway.

“I’m confident that Jackie’s footballing experience will suit her in this new role, and it’s already clear that her values and beliefs align with what we’re trying to achieve.

“With Ross and the rest of the existing staff team working together, I’m looking forward to watching what will be a historic debut season in BWSL2.”
