Joe Ashton has put pen-to-paper on a one-year professional contract with Burnley, extending his time in Lancashire until at least the summer of 2025.
The Club has a one-year extension option as part of the defender’s deal, with the teenager, who turns 18 next month, now having completed his two-year scholarship.
Having joined Burnley at U13s level Ashton has progressed through the Academy and regularly played up with the U21s group last season.
Naturally a left-back, the 17-year-old also played at centre-back when required and played a key role in the U18s’ journey to the FA Youth Cup third round.
He now permanently joins the U21s group, where he will work under manager Andy Farrell and his team.
After signing his new terms at Burnley Training Centre, Ashton said: “I’m made up to get it all signed and sorted, with all my hard work paying off in the end.
“Ever since I walked through the door I’ve felt welcome and I see Burnley as my second home now.
“I can’t thank all the staff who have helped me to date enough and I’m looking forward to next season and hopefully longer here.”
Academy Manager David Longwell added: “Joe has earned his first professional contract with his application and work rate ever since he joined us.
“As a club we always try and give our players a clear progression pathway and that shone through with Joe last season, with him playing much of his games with the U21s despite still only being 17.
“That step up didn’t seem to faze him and I look forward to seeing him develop further with our talented team of staff in 2024/25.”
