New arrival talks Turf Moor debut

Summer signing Jaidon Anthony described Saturday's East Lancashire Derby as a big battle and come the final whistle, a point in the right direction.

“It was intense, a big battle, we knew it was going to be that coming into the game. All week they were telling me how big this game is, and you felt it on the pitch. We worked our socks off.”

The Clarets went ahead early when a lovely cross from Anthony found Lyle Foster who headed past Aynsley Pears - a positive contribution for the 24-year-old on his Turf Moor debut.

“Yes, I hope to be able to do that a lot this season. I just wanted to try and create chances and score goals. It’s a great header from Lyle in fairness, it put us in the lead, and it was a great moment.”

Andreas Weimann brought Blackburn level in the 23rd minute, how did Anthony feel the team responded to the equaliser?

“It was obviously an unbelievable finish from the boy.

"Yeah, we had to react and get ourselves together and try and go again. I thought we did that, we kept our heads when tackles were flying in, we didn’t rise up to it. I thought we deserved to win in the end but it’s a point in the right direction.”

The challenge became bigger for the visitors when Makhtar Gueye received a red card and Anthony felt that the team did well to deal with the change this brought about for John Eustace's side.

“Yes, we knew they would try and be smart, try and slow the game down and I think they did that well in fairness. We wanted to keep pushing, we tried that, unfortunately we just couldn’t create the chance to score the goal that we needed.”
