It's been a busy start to life as a Claret for Jaidon Anthony, who had just the one training session before making his debut in the East Lancashire Derby.
Having had a few weeks to settle in during the international break, he's enjoying being reunited with former boss Scott Parker and is looking forward to going back to Elland Road where he spent last season.
“Before the Blackburn Rovers game I only trained with the team once, so it’s been good to integrate and get to know everyone. They’ve made me feel welcome and obviously I’ve worked with this manager before and I know his sessions are really tough. We’ve trained really hard so I’m just excited for the game now at the weekend.
“It’s been invaluable really [having the international break]. I hadn’t been here too long beforehand; it’s just been nice to get to know everyone, I feel really at home already, it’s been amazing.”
The winger had a positive start in claret and blue, grabbing an assist in the Lancashire Derby.
“Coming in I just wanted to try and help the team. That’s what I try and do, I try to create chances, score goals. It was nice to get off to a good start, it happened quickly, and the atmosphere that day was amazing. I’m buzzing for the next run of games, and we’ve got a big one on Saturday, I’m looking forward to it.”
Anthony flourished under Parker in the 2021/22 season at AFC Bournemouth when the Cherries were promoted and he's keen to repay the faith he said the Head Coach has put in him throughout his career so far.
“It’s all you want as a player to be appreciated. I know this manager very well, what he wants from his teams and players. I feel like I thrived under him before and hopefully I can do that here as well. It’s an amazing feeling.
“When he took the job before I was sort of an unknown, I hadn’t really played much football, and he put a lot of faith in me. Hopefully, it’s the same here and I just want to repay it, give my all for him and the team every time I’m on the pitch. And that’s what I’ll do.
“He’s very demanding, there’s no easy days but I feel like that’s what you need as a team if you want to be successful. You have to train hard; it makes the games easier for us. He’s very detailed in the way he coaches. He’s hands-on, it’s good for me I get to learn a lot every day. I really love working under him.”
And does he see many similarities between Parker's style at Bournemouth and the Clarets?
“Yes, obviously it’s a completely different squad, different staff as well but he works in the same way in terms of what he wants from his team, there’s definitely similarities.
“I think that probably helped me coming in, I sort of knew what he wants from my position and how he wants me to play. Hopefully, we can recreate that feeling and go up.”
Having helped the Whites reach the play-off final last season, how does the 24-year-old feel Scott Parker and Daniel Farke compare?
“They’ve both had a lot of success in this league, they have very different coaching styles and are very different coaches in their own way, both great managers.
“The way they like to play is a little bit different but at the end of the day they both want success; they both want to dominate the ball. Hopefully at the weekend we’ll be the team that can do that and come up with a good result.”
However, whilst he enjoyed his time in Yorkshire, Anthony's keen the Clarets can rise to the occasion and have a good day on Saturday.
“It’s an amazing club, with a big following. Elland Road is a place where they create a real hostile environment for other teams, hopefully we can nullify that as a team but it’s a great place to play. Hopefully, we can have a good day out there.”
