Welcome to Turf Moor for this evening’s game against Leicester City. It’s my pleasure to extend a warm welcome to Brendan Rodgers, the players, staff, directors, and supporters joining us tonight.
We come into the game after another well-deserved point at Crystal Palace following two terrific victories against Brighton and Tottenham Hotspur. The team have been on a great run of form in recent weeks, and we have lost only once in our last seven league games, which is no easy feat in the Premier League. Well done to Sean, his staff and the players. I want to take this opportunity to say thank you to you the fans, for your incredible support. The recent fixture schedule has been jam-packed, so thank you to those of you who made back-to-back weekend trips to Brighton and Crystal Palace these past two weekends.
Also, the consecutive midweek home games, last week’s win against Tottenham and tonight’s visit from the Foxes, your ongoing support does not go unnoticed.
On the topic of support, you may have seen the heart-warming story recently of Clarets fan Christopher Coxhead, who placed an advert in his local paper in Southport asking for transport to our home games.
Chris, who I had the pleasure of meeting at the Tottenham game, has early-stage Parkinson’s and was concerned his ill health would affect his ability to drive to games next season. Through the power of social media and the kindness of strangers, before long the advert had been shared far and wide and Chris was inundated with offers of help. I was made aware of the advert and before we had the chance to reach out, Chris had already secured travel with a fellow fan, to our games for the rest of this season and next.
I welcomed Chris and fellow season ticket holder Ian, who he sits next to at Turf Moor, to last week’s game and I got to find out more about his story.
What’s been so special about all of this is its testament to the Clarets community spirit and it’s a further example of why I’m so proud to be a part of this Burnley family. Chris and Ian, I hope you both had a wonderful evening, topped off by a brilliant win!
We were pleased to hold the Burnley FC ePremier League Club Playoffs at Burnley College recently and I want to congratulate winners Brad Colston and Josh Blunden for reaching the final, which will be played at Olympic Park in London next month. Brad and Josh will compete against the 19 other Premier League clubs, so the best of luck to you both. The final will be played on March 25th and 26th and the Club will be keeping you up to date with how they get on.
On the pitch, academy players Michael Mellon and Lewis Richardson both signed three and a half year deals with the Club last month. Both players have shown great promise and it’s brilliant to see our academy system developing exciting talent. I look forward to seeing their progress here at Burnley FC.
Back to tonight, there’s been a wonderful atmosphere at Turf Moor recently, let’s keep it going and get behind Sean and the team this evening.
Up the Clarets!
Alan
