Burnley U12s player Joshua Hughes played a role in the first team’s Sky Bet Championship match against Queens Park Rangers as part of the EFL’s ‘Together Against Racism’ campaign!
The youngster won a competition open to the Club’s academy players from U12s down and 16 of Burnley FC in the Community’s partner schools.
Tasked with designing a warm-up shirt for Scott Parker’s players to wear at Turf Moor, more than 500 entries were received.
After careful consideration Josh’s design, which features the phrase ‘we stand together against racism’ in rainbow colours and the Kick It Out logo, was chosen as the winner.
As a reward, he was pitch side as the players emerged from the tunnel and had the opportunity to meet and pose for photos with some of his heroes.
Speaking about the competition, he said: “My shirt was about standing together, because I don’t want players being scared or nervous to play because people are being racist.
“I felt really excited and proud to be pitch side and all the players were saying well done, which was nice.”
Together Against Racism is an EFL wide campaign that saw all 72 clubs unite to encourage players, managers and fans – both in the stands and at home – to use their voice to drive change.
