Scholars take part in annual ‘trolley dash’

As has become tradition at this time of year, players and staff within the academy’s Professional Development Phase recently showed their support for Burnley FC in the Community’s Foodbank and Down Town Shop.

Andy Farrell’s U21s and Tony Philliskirk's U18s all donated into a joint fund, and the latter headed to the Tesco Extra near Turf Moor to purchase the items that are needed most by the Foodbank.

Once the items were packed into bags they were dropped at the site in Charter Walk Shopping Centre, allowing them to be donated to local families in need.

Some of the main non-perishables purchased included pasta, rice, soups, tuna, and tinned fruits.

Reflecting on the afternoon, second-year scholar Joe Wilcock, who also took part last year, said: “It’s a nice thing for the group to do.

“We’re in a privileged situation as footballers and other people aren’t as fortunate, so it’s important that we help wherever we can.

“We split into groups of five and went round the shop, so it was a nice bonding activity too.”

BFCitC Foodbank Manager Nathan Norris added: "Every Christmas the academy players come down and show their support for our foodbank.

“The trolley dash is always a fun way for them to show their support and raise vital donations for families in Burnley at Christmas. We are always incredibly grateful!”
