Nine players from the Clarets academy are currently out on loan across the Football League & non-league pyramid following a busy week of movement.
In a week which also saw Harry Moss’ loan at Barnoldswick Town come to an end, Bobby Thomas took the headline as he netted in consecutive games for Michael Duff’s Barnsley.
Here’s a round-up of how all nine fared over the last seven days.
Bobby Thomas (Barnsley)
Centre back Thomas’ scoring touch started on Wednesday when he headed in the opener away at Oxford United with the Reds going on to win 2-1.
He then earned a point for Duff’s side on Saturday with another header, this time away at Portsmouth in the 89th minute to level things up at 1-1. That’s how it ended, and Barnsley are now sitting 6th in Sky Bet League One, occupying the last play-off place.
Thomas has been a Claret since 2017, and he will remain at Oakwell until the end of the season.
This week’s game(s): SAT – Cambridge United (H)
Dara Costelloe (Bradford City)
Costelloe’s loan at Bradford also runs until the end of the campaign. The Irish forward has been with Burnley since February 2021.
On Saturday, he was an unused substitute for the Bantams as they drew 1-1 at home against Mansfield Town, conceding in the 90th minute.
This week’s game(s): SAT – Stevenage (A)
Finn Armstrong (Curzon Ashton)
Armstrong was named amongst the substitutes for Curzon in their 3-1 defeat at AFC Fylde on Saturday. He did though come off the bench in the 73rd minute to make his Nash debut.
The full-back - who has been in the academy since he was 12 – is set to remain with the Vanarama National League North outfit until 26th February.
This week’s game(s): TUE – Alfreton Town (A) & SAT – Gloucester City (H)
Joe McGlynn (Kidderminster Harriers)
Striker McGlynn is another to have been with the Clarets from the age of 12, and he is also on a loan deal in the Vanarama National League North, with Kidderminster until the end of the season.
The Scottish youth international came on in the 76th minute in a 3-1 win at home against Blyth Spartans on Tuesday evening.
He also featured from the bench midway through the second half on Saturday when Russell Penn’s side hosted Scarborough Athletic, though that ended in a 1-0 defeat.
This week’s game(s): SAT – Spennymoor Town (A)
Jon Ander Vilar Robinson (Padiham)
17-year-old Vilar Robinson is the youngest of the loanees. Still a first-year scholar, he impressed on Tuesday as the Storks took a 3-1 win at home against Lower Breck.
Extending his loan deal last Friday to run until 5th March, the shot stopper conceded late on the following day in a 1-0 defeat at home to Avro. He was then shown a red card by the referee for an incident shortly afterwards.
He has been at Burnley from the age of 13.
Lukas Jensen (Accrington Stanley)
Danishman Jensen’s loan at Accrington runs until the end of the campaign.
With no midweek game for Stanley, he was an unused substitute on Saturday as they lost 3-0 to Lincoln City at the Wham Stadium. The ‘keeper has been at Burnley since 2019.
This week’s game(s): TUE – Port Vale (A) & SAT – Cheltenham Town (A)
Michael Mellon (Morecambe)
Frontman Mellon is also out on loan until the end of the season in Sky Bet League One across Lancashire with Morecambe.
The Shrimps lost 5-0 at Derby County on Saturday, and Mellon – who has been a Claret since he was 15 – came on in the 80th minute at Pride Park.
This week’s game(s): SAT – Forest Green Rovers (H)
Owen Dodgson (Rochdale)
Dodgson adds to the tally of loanees in the Football League, with his loan at Rochdale running until the end of the season.
For the second game running, he played the full 90 minutes for Jim Bentley’s side as on Saturday they lost out 2-1 at Salford City.
The full-back has been with Burnley since the summer of 2020.
This week’s game(s): SAT – Northampton Town (H)
Sam Waller (Lancaster City)
Like Armstrong & McGlynn, ‘keeper Waller has been a Claret since he was 12.
The 19-year-old saw his loan with Lancaster, where he has been since October, expire last Tuesday before extending it until 5th March on Friday.
24 hours later, he kept his ever-present status for the Dolly Blues going as they lost 2-0 away at top of the table South Shields.
This week’s game(s): TUE – Warrington Town (A) & SAT – FC United of Manchester (H)
