CJ Egan-Riley became the Clarets' third signing of the summer transfer window on Friday morning, after joining from Manchester City on a permanent deal.
In the 19-year-old's first interview at the Club, he discussed the role manager Vincent Kompany played in bringing him to Turf Moor, how he look to bring his City experience with him and what the Burnley fans can expect from him.
Egan-Riley on joining the Clarets:
“I’m buzzing to be here; happy the deal is over the line and I’m a Burnley player.
“I just can’t wait to get pre-season started and get the season underway.”
Egan Riley on how the move came about:
“It was probably about a month ago, I was actually on holiday and the manager (Vincent Kompany) called me.
“I just had a quick chat with him, then had a few more talks when I got back with my family and everything he was saying and put forward, I just wanted to be a part of.”
Egan-Riley on playing under manager Vincent Kompany:
“Vincent Kompany is someone I have looked up to all my life, being a defender at City and I just had to heavily consider and knew I would learn a lot from him.
“He played a huge part, he has a great mind for the game, he’s a great guy and I’m really looking forward to seeing what he can teach me.
“He’s a legend of the game, one of the best central-defender’s I’ve ever seen in football.
“I’m just going to try take in as much as I can learn as much as possible from him.”
Egan-Riley on what Burnley fans can expect of him:
“I would say I’m an intelligent player, I enjoy being on the ball and being in possession.
“I like trying to make things happen, playing passes and getting forward, but on the flipside keeping the ball out of our net and defending strong.”
Egan-Riley on featuring for Manchester City:
“It was amazing being there from so young, to experience the first team was so good for me.
“It was great experience for me, I just want to bring whatever I have learnt at City with me and help get this football club back to the Premier League, which is where we want to be.”
Egan-Riley on getting the move done early in pre-season:
“For sure, coming into a new club for the first time in my career, it will be a bit different, and I’ll have to get to know people on and off the pitch.
“But we have five weeks now to build the chemistry, the relationships and build together as a squad.”
Egan-Riley on his aspirations for the season:
“To get back to the Premier League has to be the main aim as a team and achieve together as a team.
“Personally, try to play as many games as I possibly can, do as much as I can to help the team win and keep on learning.”
Egan-Riley on the ‘project’ at Burnley:
“As me coming in as a young player and other young players, it just shows the mentality of the club wanting to use young players and develop younger players.
“With the experience of the older players and more experienced professionals, it’s a good mix that will combine well together.”
