Good evening, welcome to Turf Moor for tonight’s game against Plymouth Argyle.
At the time of writing these notes we are yet to travel to the Kassam Stadium to take on Oxford United.
It’s a long journey so safe travels to all the supporters making the trip on Saturday. Thank you for your continued support.
Last weekend’s game against Portsmouth gave us quite the dramatic ending! Victories can come in all forms, and I want to congratulate the team for digging deep to grind out the win on the day.
It was heartwarming to see Aaron Ramsey out on the grass training recently, following a long recovery period from a knee injury that he picked up in February.
It was a lovely moment as the players applauded him as he made his way onto the grass, and it was great to see the smile on his face.
As well as the physical challenges of an injury, there’s a significant mental challenge that players have to contend with. We have a hardworking team behind-the-scenes ensuring that we support our players in all aspects of their recovery and it’s always special to see a player rejoin the team. Welcome back Aaron!
Sunday was World Heart Day and in support of the Every Minute Matters Campaign and in partnership with the British Heart Foundation, Sky Bet have announced that they are donating £1,000 for every goal scored in the Sky Bet EFL last weekend.
As part of the campaign the league and clubs are encouraging supporters to learn CPR as each minute that passes without CPR reduces the chance of survival by up to 10 per cent.
This is a topic close to our hearts here at Burnley and coach Fabrice Muamba has spoken of his experience suffering a cardiac arrest during an FA Cup quarter-final match against Tottenham Hotspur in 2012.
More information about the campaign and World Heart Day can be found on our website and I’d encourage supporters to watch the British Heart Foundation’s learn CPR in 15 minutes video, as it really could save a life.
Earlier this week the players were out in the community supporting our official charity Burnley FC in the Community. It was a fantastic opportunity for all of our summer signings to get a feel for the town, and between them they attended Cherry Fold Primary School, the Leisure Box and Nelson and Colne College.
At Cherry Fold Primary they took part in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) lesson, at the Leisure Box they joined a Limitless Clarets sign language session and at the college they visited the charity’s Shadow Youth Team project.
It’s important for our players to see the scope of the charity’s impactful work and wide range of people of all ages, that they support. The feedback we received from the visits and from the players themselves was fantastic, it’s always wonderful to hear the difference it can make.
Finally, we were delighted to officially launch our new sensory room at the stadium recently.
In partnership with the charity, the room is a specially designed, designated space for those with special educational needs (SEN) or sensory processing issues, so they have a comfortable environment to watch the game away from the noise of the crowds.
Since announcing the room’s availability, we’ve received a significant amount of interest, and we’re pleased that the space can help individuals have an enjoyable experience of a Turf Moor matchday.
Back to this evening, this is our first midweek league game at home under the lights, so let’s make it a good one!
Enjoy the game everybody.
UTC!
Alan
