Good afternoon and welcome back to Turf Moor for today’s game against Fulham.
We travelled to the Etihad midweek to face last season’s Premier League Champions.
It’s always difficult to face Manchester City, they are a team of such high quality and can punish any mistakes. Despite the result, I believe there were positives to take from the performance and I echo Vincent’s words post-match that we are going into every game showing bits that should make us confident for the rest of the season.
I’m delighted to welcome Hughie & Freddie today to celebrate the fantastic news that Hughie is now cancer-free.
I’ve been so moved by the boys’ story; their amazing fundraising saw them raise over £350,000 for the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital where Hughie has been receiving treatment for leukaemia.
We’ve followed their journey closely and their friendship and the tenacity they have shown is so inspiring. Everybody at the Club is incredibly proud of them, and we’ve prepared some special activities today which we hope you both enjoy!
You may have seen we recently announced an exciting strategic partnership with Scottish Premiership club, Dundee FC.
The new alliance will help us to enhance emerging and developing talent and the partnership has already seen players including Owen Dodgson, Dara Costelloe and Michael Mellon head to Scotland on loan.
It’s important that we create opportunities for our players to gain valuable playing time and I’m pleased we could partner with a Club that shares our ambition and strong community values. I’m looking forward to seeing the relationship continue to grow over time.
On the topic of development, at the time of writing these notes we’ve seen movement in the January transfer window. It’s great to welcome new players onboard as we tackle the remainder of our league campaign.
Several players across the squad have also gone out on loan to further their development. I wish all the players who have departed the very best of luck with their progression.
Staying with the academy, congratulations to our U18s who, following a recent 2-0 win over QPR, have reached the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup and will face Bristol City at the Robins High Performance Centre next Wednesday.
Tony Philliskirk and the players have been working hard to prepare and I wish them the best of luck in progressing to the next round.
Now, today is another test for us, but it was a fantastic game against Fulham at Craven Cottage in December. Let’s get behind Vincent and the squad and get Turf Moor rocking this afternoon!
UTC!
Alan
