Good afternoon and a warm welcome back to Turf Moor for today’s game against Cardiff City.
It’s been a busy few months since we were last at home, but I hope you are all feeling the same sense of excitement as myself about the season ahead.
We welcomed Scott as our new Head Coach earlier in the summer, and I’m thrilled with the start he has made. His credentials in the Championship speak for themselves but what struck me in meeting him and subsequently since, is his good nature, warmth, and ability to lead and motivate. It’s great to have him onboard.
Monday night’s win at Luton Town was fantastic! To secure a 4-1 victory in our opening game, away from home in the manner that we did was absolutely brilliant. We are all in no doubt that last season was tough so to get that win, a win that I’m sure you could see from the celebrations meant so much to each of the players, was a perfect start.
To the travelling fans that made the journey, thank you. Your support was outstanding and we’re going to be calling on it for the rest of this Championship campaign.
Now, ahead of our return to home turf it’s important for me to take this opportunity to remind all those that attend games at Turf Moor that we want the stadium to be a welcoming and inclusive environment for everybody.
Over the past few months our Stadium Operations team have been working on ways to ensure the safety and security of all fans. You will see increased branding in concourses and pitch side sharing our new Report Line system as we have a zero-tolerance approach to all forms of abusive behaviour or hateful speech of any kind at Burnley FC.
Unfortunately, some female supporters have recently made the Club aware of occasions where they have felt uncomfortable whilst at Turf Moor. Speaking as a Chairman and a father of three daughters, this is distressing to hear, and I want to make my stance on it very clear. We will not tolerate behaviour that leaves anybody feeling this way whilst at our stadium or any stadium that we visit, and we will ensure those found to be responsible face the strictest sanctions.
Matchdays are a wonderful opportunity for us all to come together and support the team, let’s make sure it’s a positive experience for everybody.
Lastly, I was so happy to see us get back to winning ways at Kenilworth Road on Monday, but I am under no illusion just how relentless the Championship can be.
Home games, away trips, new stadiums to visit and new memories to be made, we’ve got a big nine months ahead of us, but we plan to give it our all.
Your support never goes unnoticed so for this, thank you.
Let’s go, UTC!
