Alan's notes ahead of tonight's game

Good afternoon and welcome back to Turf Moor for today’s game against Bristol City.

We had nine of our players away on international duty over the break, representing countries from around the globe in 2026 World Cup Qualifiers, UEFA Nations League play-off fixtures and friendlies.

Josh Cullen and Ireland retained their place in UEFA Nations League B with two wins and Hannibal started in both of Tunisia's 2026 World Cup Qualifier wins against Liberia and Malawi. Lyle Foster, meanwhile, started in both South Africa’s World Cup qualifiers, getting on the scoresheet against Benin on Tuesday.

Following an impressive Championship campaign, James Trafford was named in Thomas Tuchel's first Three Lions squad, gaining valuable experience and CJ Egan-Riley received his first England U21s call-up and featured in both of their friendlies.

Luca Koleosho joined up with Italy U21s and featured in their games against the Netherlands and Denmark and Oliver Sonne was an unused substitute for Peru in their two 2026 World Cup Qualifiers against Bolivia and Venezuela.

Connor Roberts helped Wales to second place in their qualifying group, playing in the win against Kazakhstan and it was great to see Manuel Benson start in both of Angola's 2026 World Cup Qualifiers against Libya and Cape Verde.

Following the international break, it was great to get everybody back together ahead of today’s test against Bristol City. We’re arriving at the game on the back of a positive win in Swansea and I’m hoping that we can carry that momentum into this afternoon’s encounter.

Today is also our Neurodiversity Acceptance fixture. In the matchday programme you will hear more about the activations we have in place and Chief Operating Officer Matt Williams and Vinny Reeves from our U10s Academy team both share their stories.

Finally, we recently announced the news that the Dude Perfect International Youth Cup will be returning to the training ground the last weekend in May.

Bringing some of world football’s finest youth talent to Lancashire, the first set of teams to be announced are Burnley FC, Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund, and FC Dallas.

We’ll be announcing more teams and further information about the tournament in the coming weeks and I’m looking forward to what’s set to be a fantastic weekend.
