Earlier this month, Burnley U21s Manager Andy Farrell celebrated 25 years as a non-playing member of the Clarets family!
Having spent a further seven years of his playing career with Burnley, the 58-year-old is well and truly part of the training ground furniture.
Speaking about his time with the Club, Farrell said: “I never expected to be here this long!
“The 25 years have flown by and I’ve loved every minute of it, with some really good times with the youth teams.”
Affectionately known as Faz by his colleagues and players alike, Farrell’s journey with the Club started as a player when he was signed by Brian Miller in 1987.
Moving from his hometown club Colchester United, he operated in midfield and made 257 league appearances in various divisions.
Farrell was part of the team that won the fourth division in 1991/92 and, two years later, was involved as the Clarets were promoted to what is now known as the Sky Bet Championship via the play-offs.
While still playing part-time elsewhere, Farrell’s Academy coaching journey started in 1999 where he worked at what was known as our Regional Talent Centre next to Turf Moor.
Having worked as an Assistant Coach for both the U18s and U21s, he was appointed lead coach of the U21s in 2023.
When asked if he had any standout memories, he continued: “I think it was Tom Anderson’s group about 12 years ago who got to the semi-final of the FA Youth Cup.
“There were good times recently with our Central League Cup final win over Derby County too.”
