The Clarets lost their opening game to Palmeiras, a side which included Brazil U19 internationals, before an impressive draw with Turkish side Altinordu, then going to lose 1-0 against both much older Slavia Prague and Besiktas sides.

Tony Philliskirk’s side were the youngest team in the tournament, including three 15-year-olds amongst the squad in the Czech Republic, one being Eastmond.

Former Manchester United youngster Woods said: “I think it has been a successful trip, we came out here to learn how to play the new way stepping up to the U18s and to get closer to the team.

Obviously, it’s not been as successful on the pitch as we would have liked, results wise we can’t ignore the fact that we have come last in the tournament.

That’s not the Burnley way, no one should be happy we have come last, but I think we have learnt a lot together as a group and it is improving and hopefully after playing a lot of these older teams in Prague, the experience will come to our advantage come the first game of the season.”

Eastmond added “It has been a really good trip, it has been hard physically and mentally, but in my eyes, it has been successful overall, despite the results.

“We have come closer as a group and we have learnt a lot from each other not just on the pitch but off it as well.”

The young pair admitted the scorching heat played its part during the matches, however, stated that it can only improve the group as a whole, especially if they were to play away from England again.

“If we ever do go abroad again with Burnley, I think we would be a bit more used to it and know what to expect, where as this week was a bit new for everyone.

Not excuses, but the older teams will be fitter, stronger, faster and obviously older, with them being from abroad as well they will be used to the hot weather and be able to adapt easier than it is for us.

But it has been a great challenge which all of the boys have accepted and tried to tackle head on.” Said Woods.

Philliskirk’s side will play their final pre-season warm up this weekend, as they take on Derby County, Rangers and Brighton & Hove Albion in a tournament at St George’s Park.

And Eastmond knows there is room for improvement and that the team will want to put things right on the pitch straight away, starting this weekend.

“There are a few things we need to work on coming into the season, getting used to having the ball, playing with it under pressure and knowing what to do with it and what not to do.

This week won’t be forgotten about, we just need to get back to the winning mentality this weekend and that will do our confidence as a group a world of good.

Then come the first game of the season next week, we will be stronger as group and as individuals.” Said the former Manchester City attacker.

Woods added: “Saturday gives us the chance to put things right on the pitch and it gives us three games to try and go get three wins.

But like T (Eastmond) said, we don’t want to forget this week because there are positives to take from it, we just need to take them straight into this weekend then the upcoming season.”
