Striker Evie Priestley hit a hat-trick as Burnley FC Women made it three wins from three this season with a 4-2 midweek win under the lights away against AFC Fylde Women, earning bragging rights in the North West in the process.
Priestley scored the opener and added two more in the second half, with Millie Ravening also on target at Kellamergh Park against the Coasters as a clinical second half performance got the job done for Jonathan Morgan’s side.
Morgan made two changes to his side from the 1-0 victory over Stoke City Women last time out as Emma Taylor, on a dual registration deal from Manchester United Women for the season, made her full debut.
Sarah Greenalgh also started for the first time this season with Olivia Wilson named on the bench, and Ella Kinzett unavailable.
First Half
After a tame start to the contest, defender Taylor had the first opportunity of the game, slicing over on 10 minutes as the ball fell to her following a scramble from a set-piece.
Ravening then had a shot blocked at the edge of the box with Ellie May following up but seeing her rebound held by Coasters ‘keeper Megan Hunter.
May also set Sarah Greenalgh away soon after with a fine pass using the outside of her boot, but the forward’s chip was cleared off the line by defender Jenna Carroll with Hunter well beaten.

20 minutes in, the opener eventually came via Priestley, latching onto a long ball from Lizzy Hamer and rounding Hunter to stroke home into the empty net.
Faye McCoy blazed a free-kick high and wide at the other end, before Ravening dinked a ball over the top for Priestley and the striker again was denied by Hunter.
Leah Embley was the next to go close, rattling the outside of the post, though against the run of play Fylde equalised on 37 minutes through Amy Hughes who found the top corner.
‘Keeper Hunter had to be replaced through injury before the half-time whistle, with it remaining 1-1 come the interval.
Second Half
Electric at the restart, Burnley found the back of the net twice in the opening five minutes via Priestley & Ravening, but May was the first to try her luck from distance within 60 seconds of the second half.
Her shot from distance was held by substitute ‘keeper Ellie Etheridge, but Priestley made it 2-1 on 47 minutes. She tapped home the rebound after Dom Cooper’s lob was tipped onto the bar by Etheridge.

And it was 3-1 just three minutes later as Ravening hammered home a low-driven strike when the ball fell to her at the edge of the box from a corner.
It was almost four on 56 minutes as Hamer combined well with Sarah Greenalgh in the box and worked the ball to Embley, but she could only find the side netting.
Hosts Fylde then had the ball in the back of the net amidst a scramble from a corner, but with Bracewell felled by a push, the goal was disallowed, much to the dismay of the Coasters.
Controlling the game well, Burnley saw a penalty appeal waved away for what had appeared a clear handball with eight minutes remaining, and two minutes later, the deficit was halved via McCoy’s header from a free-kick.
Embley hit the post from the edge of the box soon after, while substitute Amaya Coleman-Evans fired wide from distance on the half volley. But, any nerves were calmed in the third minute of added time with Priestley completing her hat-trick.

The striker smashed home her third after a free-flowing move upfield, and the Claret Women made it nine points from nine.
Morgan’s Claret Women next return to action on Sunday – September 4 – hosting Huddersfield Town Women at the County Ground in Leyland. Entry will be free to all as we look to see a bumper crowd backing the team oncemore.
