The Clarets started brightly at the 250,000 capacity Strahov Stadium in Prague, on a humid morning in the capital.

Burnley came close early on, as Mitch George picked up Rhys Fenlon’s pass, before looking to curl an effort into the top corner, which was well caught by Gokdendiz Kusunoglu in the Besiktas goal.

However, it was the Turkish side who took the lead just before the water break.

Winger Almos Kaan Kalafat fired in the opener, after some good play down the left side.

15-year-old Michael Mellon lined up alongside George in attack and the pair were causing problems for the Besiktas defence, as Philliskirk’s side looked to draw the scores level.

And just before the break, George rifled the ball just wide, after latching onto Mellon’s neat pass.

Half-time saw midfielder Corey Brennan replace Nejai Tucker in the middle of the park.

But as the Clarets pushed on for a goal, the Turkish side tested goalkeeper Lewis Thomas a handful of times, with the former Manchester City goalkeeper pulling off some great saves.

Despite Burnley’s best efforts at clawing a goal back, ‘The Black Eagles’ kept the Lancashire side at bay to secure the win on a sweltering morning.
