The former Liverpool man netted two goals in the U18s opening pre-season fixture last weekend, in a 3-0 win against AFC Bournemouth at St George’s Park.

And Major, who is heading into his second season as scholar with the Clarets, admits he didn’t play and perform as much as he had liked to last season.

“I am so happy to have started off pre-season with a couple of goals and a win," he said.

“Over the off-season I have been working hard and preparing, then since coming back at the beginning of July I’ve just been working really hard.

“I feel like this season is going to be a good season for myself.

“It has started off well with a win from the opening friendly, so it’s good for the team as well to get going.

“After last season, this season I am putting my foot down and want to show everyone what I can do."

The converted striker joined Burnley at the end of the 2017/18 season as a winger or a 'number 10'.

But the 17-year old is happy with the change of position and looking to take the opportunity to impress and lead from the front.

He said: “I have changed position now from a number 10 to a centre forward and I feel like I am getting used to that now.

“My movement up-front has improved, so I am looking forward to the season ahead and hopefully to get plenty of goals for the team."

Philliskirk’s side are now into their third week as a new group, and Major admits the mood around the camp is high and the squad are beginning to come together really well.

“It has been a good first couple of weeks, the lads are starting to bond well as a group now," he added.

“It’s good for everyone to get to know each other on the pitch as well as off it.

“So when the first league game comes in August they’re will be a great team spirit around the group and I think going to Prague next week in the tournament will help with that."

Wednesday's youth team friendly against Liverpool, scheduled for the Barnfield Training Centre, has now been postponed.
