The striker was named among the substitutes for the Clarets’ Carabao Cup tie against Sunderland in mid-week in his first taste of the senior set-up at Turf Moor.

And the 16-year-old has now been included in the England squad for the up-coming Syrenka Cup tournament in Poland.

"It's really good news for him and well deserved," said Burnley Academy Manager Jon Pepper.

"I think his progress and form for the Under-23s this season - as well as a place on the bench for the first team - warrants it."

Richardson – who scored for the national team at under-16 level last season – will be part of a squad that flies out to Warsaw next Wednesday as part of their preparations for European Championship qualifying next March.

England then play Finland on Friday, 6 September before further matches on 8 against either Austria or Romania and 10 September as part of the eight-team tournament, which also includes the Republic of Ireland Poland, Georgia, Norway or Switzerland.

Manchester-born Richardson has been at the Clarets’ Academy since the age of nine and having signed a full-time scholarship deal in the summer is a regular member of Steve Stone's U23 squad.

His selection continues an upsurge in international recognition for the Academy with Dwight McNeil being named by England’s Under-21s for the first time and second-year scholar Chris Conn-Clarke (above) being called by Northern Ireland’s Under-19s for back-to-back friendlies against the Faroe Islands next week.

At senior level, goalkeeper Nick Pope will also be on England duty next week after his re-call to Gareth Southgate's squad for the start of their European Championship qualifying campaign.
