A first half hat-trick from striker Joe McGlynn had the Clarets leading 3-1 at the break.

However, the visitors hit back twice with two quickfire goals in the second-half, before grabbing a fourth in the 88th minute.

However, Burnley were then awarded a penalty in the last minute of the game, which Corey Brennan stepped up and slammed home from the spot.

The Clarets got off to a dream start, as Ben Woods played a lovely ball into the feet of Tremaine Eastmond, who then teed up McGlynn to slot home the opener with just three minutes gone.

And just 17 minutes later the Clarets had a second. McGlynn had the simple task of heading home a loose ball, after latching onto Brennan's flick on inside the area.

North End halved the deficit just five minutes before the break, before McGlynn secured his third of the match to restore the two-goal lead with a sweet strike, from Eastmond's neat pass.

The away side then pulled another goal back just 10 minutes into the second half, before equalising 15 minutes later to pull the scores level.

And as the clock ticked on and both sides pushed for a late winner, it was Preston who struck with just two minutes left to play on a windy afternoon at the Burnley base.

But Townson's side made one final push and it paid off, as the hosts were awarded a penalty in stoppage time.

Midfielder Brennan stepped up and slotted home the eighth goal of the match, to earn a share of thre spoils with the last kick of the game.
