Rob Harker hit a goal in each half at Bramall lane this afternoon (Monday), in a 3-0 win which extended Steve Stone’s side unbeaten run to eight matches in the U23 Professional Development League.
Harker opened the scoring just five minutes into the game, after nodding home Anthony Glennon’s pin-point cross, before Adam Phillips doubled Burnley’s lead just 10 minutes later.
And the game was put out of sight in the second half, as Harker crashed home a header from Glennon’s corner, to give the away side all three points.
The former Bury Striker had not scored this season until this afternoon, but the towering forward was delighted to get off the mark and admitted the team’s hard work on the training ground paid off.
Harker said: “It was another terrific performance today from the lads, to still be unbeaten is a great achievement in itself, but a really good team effort today.
“We have worked really hard all week, leading up to this game and I think it has showed the hard work we have put in has paid off.
“Also, a special mention to the young lads that have come in, they have been fantastic.
“We have welcomed them into the group really well and helped them become a part of it, it’s a good group to be involved with and everyone is working together to get the success out on the pitch.
“But I am really happy to have got off the mark today, a couple of goals is just what I needed.
“It has been a long time coming, but you just have to keep doing the right things and being in the right places and eventually it will come.
“It was two great crosses in from Glenno (Anthony Glennon), he is always firing them in and luckily today I got on the end of two of them and we got the win and the clean sheet.”
Burnley’s U23s are next in action on Sunday 6th October against Middlesbrough in the Premier League Cup opening group match, at Bishop Auckland with a 1:00pm kick off.
