Top-class youth football comes to Burnley this weekend when the Clarets' Academy hosts its first 'International Cup'.
The two-day tournament will see 10 clubs, including Liverpool, Manchester United, Rangers, Hertha Berlin and Portuguese top-flight side Nacional, compete alongside Burnley at the Barnfield Training Centre in Padiham.
The competition, for Under-10 age-group teams, is free to watch for supporters, with matches kicking off at 10.30am on Saturday and 8.30am on Sunday. The final is scheduled for 2.30pm on Sunday.
Tournament organiser Ash Higgins, a lead foundation phase coach in the Clarets’ Academy, said: “It’s the first time we’ve staged an event like this and it’s another big step forward for the Academy at this level.
“We have attracted some really high-calibre clubs with different styles of football, which will hopefully make it an interesting challenge and an enjoyable experience for our youngsters.
“I hope as many Burnley supporters and members of the local community will come down to watch and support the teams and get a feel for how we are moving things forward and progressing as an Academy set-up.”
The full list of teams taking part is: Burnley, Manchester United, Liverpool, Rangers, Hertha Berlin, FC St Pauli (Germany), Nacional, S G Sacavenense, Escola de Futbal Faro and GD Fabril (all Portugal).
