The Under-23s go to Bristol City this afternoon (Monday) looking to re-claim a play-off place and keep their title hopes intact.
Birmingham City’s 4-1 win at QPR on Monday afternoon lifted the Blues into second spot in the Professional Development League’s northern group.
But Birmingham only lead Burnley and fourth-placed Bolton on goal difference, meaning any positive result at Ashton Gate (KO 1pm) will lift Steve Stone’s men back into the second play-off slot with just three games to go.
The Clarets have lost just once in their last 11 games in all competitions – a run that includes vital league wins over both Birmingham and Bolton – as they prepare to take on a Bristol side sitting fifth in the southern division and with an outside chance of making the play-offs in their half of the competition.
The Robins lost 2-1 at home to Colchester United in their last game – when returning first-team midfielder Korey Smith played for just under an hour as he continues his comeback from a long-term injury absence.
Coverage of this afternoon’s game at Bristol City will be available across the club’s official media channels.
Meanwhile, the Clarets’ Premier League Cup quarter-final tie against Leeds United will be played on Friday afternoon (29 March).
The tie at the Barnfield Training Centre (KO 2.30pm) will be played behind closed doors.
Leeds currently lead the PDL’s northern section by eight points and will secure their place in the end-of-season title play-offs with a win at Colchester on Monday evening.
