The Clarets’ youth team will take on some top-class opposition when they compete in the annual CEE Cup at the end of July, which takes place in the capital of the Czech Republic, Prague.
Burnley debuted in the tournament back in the summer of 2017, where the Clarets came up against Premier League rivals Everton in an all-English final.
Tony Philliskirk’s side travel to the historic city of Prague on the 23rd July, after coming up against AFC Bournemouth, Liverpool and Everton in pre-season friendlies to warm up ahead of the tournament.
The CEE Cup consists of eight teams, alongside Burnley will be, Czech sides Sparta and Slavia Prague, Brazilian opposition Palmeiras, Croatian outfit Dinamo Zagreb and Turkish side Besiktas will be in attendance, with two final teams to be confirmed.
The eight teams will be split in to two groups of four, before the top two from each group will head into the semi-finals, before a final on Tuesday 30th July.
Academy manager Jon Pepper is pleased that the U18s are going back there this summer once again and believes it is a great experience for all involved.
He said: “We are delighted to be going back to Prague for the 2019 CEE Cup. We had a great experience in 2017 exceeding all expectations on the pitch by reaching the final.
We also found that off the pitch the experience of travelling to a different country, training in a different environment and living together 24/7 in a hotel was invaluable for both players and staff.”
And with 10 new faces joining the youth side this year as first-year scholars, Pepper believes it is a great way for the youngsters to get to know the second-year group and bond as a team ahead of the league opener on August 10th.
“It also allowed the new intake of scholars to get to know the second years better and helped bond the players as a group.
“Prague is an amazing City and we found a spare afternoon to do some sightseeing which the whole group enjoyed.
“We are all looking forward to going back where hopefully we have an enjoyable and productive week.” Said Pepper.
Full coverage of this tournament will be available on Twitter (@BurnleyOfficial) and on the Clarets’ website throughout the week of 23rd – 30th July.
