The Under-23s start their home league programme this afternoon (Monday) when they face Coventry City at Turf Moor (KO 2pm).
Steve Stone’s side picked up a point from a 1-1 draw in their opening Professional Development League fixture against Millwall at The Den.
And the Clarets are likely to be helped in their quest for a first win by Danny Drinkwater.
The loan signing from Chelsea is building up his match fitness and is expected to figure as an over-age player in midfield against the Sky Blues to lend some added experience to Stone’s line-up as they play the first of back-to-back home games at Turf Moor.
“It’s good in the early part of the season that the lads often the opportunity to play in stadiums,” said the Under-23s’ boss.
“Obviously it’s not the same as a first-team fixture, with the intensity and the size of the crowd, but it does give games more of that feel which is important for the development of the players.
“We competed well down at Millwall and I want us to build on that and get off to a good start here.”
Coventry beat Barnsley 2-1 in their first game with goals from Will Bapaga and Max Biamou making them one of only two teams in the league’s southern section to win their opening fixture.
Entry is free for this afternoon’s game for season-ticket holders on production of their ticket.
Admission otherwise is £4 adults and £2 concessions with tickets to be bought from the ticket office.
