16 November 2018

The Clarets cruised past Crewe Alexandra in the Professional Development League, with 15-year-old Lewis Richardson stealing the honours with a five-star show on his first start for the youth team!

The youngster bagged five goals in the 6-1 victory, on a day to remember.

Richardson opened the scoring with three minutes played, before adding a second just eight minutes later.

Crewe pulled one back with 25 minutes gone, before Richardson duly sealed his first half at-trick just before the break.

Chriss Conn-Clarke slammed home the fourth 10 minutes into the second half, and Richardson expertlynodded home his fourth of the afternoon shortly after.

And the forward notched his fifth in the 70th minute to round off the scoring with another cool finish.

Burnley started the brighter side and took the lead with just three minutes gone.

Conn-Clarke picked out Richardson on the left, who cut inside before curling home past Andrew Walklate.

Moments later, the Clarets had a second as Richardson picked up the ball outside the box, before weaving in and out of the Alex defence and slotting home.

Crewe then reduced the arrears as Connor Heath struck a fine finish into the top left corner from outside the box.

However, John Townson's side added a third just before the break, as Richardson secured his hat-trick from close range.

Conn-Clarke then got in on the action, after slamming home Rhys Fenlon's low cross just before the hour mark.

And it was Richardson on the score-sheet again moments later, this time heading in Kane Patterson's looping cross.

The 15-year-old then snatched his fifth of the afternoon, after rounding Walklate and slotting into an empty goal.

Conn-Clarke came close to adding a seventh as the clock ticked on, as his effort from range fizzed just wide of the post.

But by then thre hosts had done more than enough in a win that elevated them to third in the league, ahead of Leeds United, who are due to play tomorrow morning.
