Goalkeeper Conor Mitchell has joined Scottish Premiership side St Johnstone on loan for the 2018/19 season.
And under-23s’ team mate-mate and goalkeeping colleague Aiden Stone has also left Turf Moor on a temporary basis to join Lancaster City on loan until 1 January.
The move is designed to give the pair – who both signed new contracts at Burnley this summer – further senior experience and the chance of first-team football.
Mitchell, 22, went with the Clarets’ first-team squad on their pre-season training camp to Ireland, but with four senior keepers on the books at Turf Moor will get more of an immediate opportunity to be involved at first-team level out on loan.
The Northern Ireland under-21 international, who started last season on loan at Chester City, has spent a few days training with St Johnstone and has now completed a move to McDiarmid Park.
“I’m absolutely delighted to be joining the club. As soon as I heard about St. Johnstone’s interest in me I jumped at the chance,” Mitchell told St Johnstone’s website.
“My aim for this season was always to get out on-loan and to break free from the Academy system. Scotland is a great place for me to come because it provides a great platform for me if I do well and it’s great exposure.
“I’m looking forward to getting going and showing people what I can do and I’m excited about the season ahead with St. Johnstone.”
Aiden Stone played a number of times for the under-23s last season
The Saints, managed by ex-Northern Ireland, Newcastle United and Manchester City keeper Tommy Wright, have started their season with three games in the group stages of the Scottish League Cup and are yet to concede a goal. The Perth-based club finished eighth in the Scottish top flight last season.
Meanwhile, Stone has moved to the Giant Axe after playing a couple of friendlies for the Dolly Blues.
The 19-year-old, who joined the Clarets from non-league side Brocton last summer, can continue to train with Burnley while playing for the Evo Stik Premier Division side.
