Burnley FC in the Community was once again active in China in August, visiting Beijing to help deliver the second phase of the Premier Skills Programme.

The innovative programme uses football to develop a brighter future for young people around the world and currently operates in 19 countries across Asia, Africa and the Americas. To date, 7,600 Premier Skills coaches and referees have reached more than 1.2 million children and young people and Burnley FC in the Community are thrilled to be involved in the inspiring work.

The second phase 7-day course was attended by 38 coaches that had been selected from 200 coaches who had previously attended an earlier course in Beijing. The focus was principally to refresh coach development leading into the basics of coach education with the aim of producing the next line of coach educators.

Burnley FC in the Community are committed to the Premier Skills Programme having delivered previous phases and courses both in China and other countries including Durban, South Africa.

Head of Football Development Overseas at Burnley FC in the Community, Paul Wozny said: “The course was intense and the week of training that the participants received was in depth and covered a wide range of modules. We had great interest with how we operate our programmes in the UK and Burnley FC was the talk of the day after our season opening win against Chelsea, which definitely put our brand on the map in Beijing!”

“The Premier Skills Phase 2 course was a great success and the participants left with far more knowledge which will be shared and utilised with fellow Chinese players and coaches alike.”
