A selection of players from Burnley’s U9 and U10 squads born in 2014 played in a seven-a-side tournament organised by the Glasgow FA over the weekend.
The Clarets were the only English team to take part, fielding two sides to compete against Celtic, Rangers, Aberdeen, Hibernian, Hearts, and Queen’s Park.
The 15-minute-long games in front of a healthy crowd leant themselves towards developing the skills to be able to cope with fast-paced football against varied styles.
Taking place at the Toryglen Regional Football Centre in Glasgow, the trip also proved to be a valuable team-building experience with group travel and an overnight stay.
The young people also enjoyed a tour of Hampden Park, a team meal, and games at a local arcade.
Alex Stylianou, the Club’s Foundation Development Phase Lead Coach, said of the trip: ''It was a great two days away.
“For some of them it was their first experience of travelling to play tournament football, so to do so against quality opposition like Celtic and Rangers was valuable.
“Youth football is about developing players, and winning games, or learning how to win the right way, is part of that process.
“It was great to see so many smiley faces, too, with the group creating lots of memories and developing stronger friendships.
“The boys all applied themselves really well both on and off the pitch and were a credit to themselves, their families and the Club.”
The trip is the latest example of the Burnley Academy facilitating exciting and enriching experiences for its players.
During February half term, all age groups were able to make use of the Club’s state of the art training facilities during the day time and undertake workshops on important topics.
