Ahead of Dementia Action Week, which takes place 19th - 25th May, Joe Worrall and Václav Hladký visited Burnley FC in the Community’s Dementia Programme, No Nay Never Forget, at Burnley Tennis Club to spend time with those living with dementia.
No Nay Never Forget provides a safe, comfortable and supportive environment for people living Dementia, Alzheimer’s and their families, friends and carers. The regular weekly activities include board games, dominoes, dancing, music, bingo and so much more.
When Joe and Václav arrived, they hosted a very competitive game of higher or lower before making their way round all the participants and finding out about their stories.
Deputy CEO Michael Colquhoun said: “These visits are incredibly important to our participants, many of whom are lifelong Burnley fans. For them, Burnley Football Club is more than just a team, it’s a powerful connection to their personal memories, such as attending matches, which can play a vital role in supporting their wellbeing while living with dementia.
“Spending quality time with Joe and Václav, chatting about Burnley and football, was a fantastic experience. We’d like to extend a huge thank you to Burnley FC and the players for their support and for coming together to raise awareness during Dementia Action Week.”
Joe Worrall told us: “Václav and I came down to visit the people at No Nay Never Forget, literally a stone’s throw from Turf Moor. We played a bit of Higher or Lower, dominoes, and just got involved with the people here, spreading some laughs and happiness.”
Václav Hladký added: “It’s important, and nice, to get out of the training ground and give some of your energy to them.”
Burnley FC in the Community now runs three No Nay Never Forget sessions every week. If you know someone living with dementia who could benefit from the support network, please get in touch with Martin Payne at M.Payne@burnleyfc.com to find out how they can support you.
