Burnley Football Club are proud to support World Mental Health Day today, a campaign that offers the chance to talk about mental health in general, how we need to look after it, and how important it is to talk about things and get help if you are struggling.
The World Health Organisation recognise the day on the 10th October every year, with the campaign designed to call on national and local governments to prioritise reducing the factors known to pose a risk to people’s mental health, enhancing those known to protect it and creating the conditions needed for people to thrive.
Former Burnley FC player, Clarke Carlisle spoke about mental health and the importance of speaking out if you are struggling, at Burnley's game against Blackpool in August.
"Many of you will be privy to the journey that I've been on. I've got to give a heartfelt thanks to so many messages that I received from the Burnley fans when I was going through my difficulties.
"I can't tell you how much it means to a person to know that you're being thought of. That prayers are being said for you, and the Let's Keep Talking campaign is so important.
"You know, when you're going through it, you think that you're on your own. Well you're not, at Turf Moor, we got 20,000 people who are here, who are willing to listen, willing to help. You're never on you're own. There's always someone who wants to support you. Never forget that. This is your family.
"There is always someone who can help. You don't have to be like me. You don't have to tell everybody, but please tell somebody. It's the most important thing you can do."
